Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join Dr. Gomez-Nicola’s team (www.dgnlab.co.uk) to study the crosstalk of inflammation and depression using animal models that mimic depression-like behaviour.  Experience in areas related to neuroscience and/or immunology is essential.

The post is available for a period of 12 months (with potential to extend for a further 6-12 months) and is offered on a full-time basis.

You will have a PhD* and laboratory experience in a relevant area, with a strong neuroscience or neuroimmunology component. Having previous experience with in vivo work is essential. You should be an enthusiastic and well-motivated scientist, capable of contributing substantially to developing your own research project, a good team-worker and an excellent communicator.

The project is a new collaboration with an industrial partner and offers exciting routes into a deep understanding of the role of the immune system in mental health. This post offers an opportunity to gain experience of diverse techniques working in a research team within an exciting multi-disciplinary research environment. 

The University of Southampton provides an outstanding environment for research on neuroscience. The research group is part of the Alzheimer’s Research UK South Coast Network and the Southampton Neuroscience Group (SoNG), and is integrated across the disciplines of biology and medicine including laboratories with clinical and non-clinical expertise.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
