The Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) in the UK: exploring partnership formation and fertility

The Department of Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton is looking to recruit a researcher with interests in family demography and quantitative sociology. Using the newly fielded Generations and Gender Survey (GGS), the project will explore living arrangements, cohabitation, marriage, and childbearing in the UK.

Working under the direction of Professor Brienna Perelli-Harris, who has been awarded an ESRC grant together with colleagues Professor Ann Berrington and Dr Olga Maslovskaya, you will use advanced quantitative methods to better understand family change in the UK.

You will have a postgraduate degree in a quantitative social science and experience with advanced statistical methods, excellent knowledge and solid practical experience in the use of STATA or a similar software program, and good written and oral communication skills.

The deadline for applications is 15 June 2022. The position is tenable from 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Please apply online at https://jobs.soton.ac.uk. Informal inquiries may be made to Professor Perelli-Harris via email: B.G.Perelli-Harris@soton.ac.uk

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview in late-June 2022.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
