Offer

Applications are invited for a full time fixed term 12 month Senior Research Fellow position in the University of Southampton, working with Professor Mike Surridge on the ProTeGo project and related projects. ProTeGo is funded by H2020, and is developing novel models and procedures for analysing security risks in health care systems.

Value to You

The project will involve collaboration with industry partners including IBM Israel, Thales, Grupo Corporativo GFI Informatica, hospitals including Ospedale San Raffaele SRL and Marina Salud, and other universities including KU Leuven and the University of Duisberg-Essen. The post provides an excellent platform for career development, with opportunities to work on fundamental mathematical models for distributed system management with industry leaders in this field, and/or practical methodologies for managing risks with user organisations in a high-profile sector.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to research into knowledge modelling techniques, machine inference, machine learning (ML) and the underlying mathematical models to predict and assess risks from cyber security threats in health care systems.

The project also involves developing ways to communicate potential risks to health care sector workers, support technology acceptance experiments, write project reports, and produce refereed publications and present research findings to the community and (if appropriate) the public.

For further information about the project, see https://protego-project.eu/.

Skills

To be successful you will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in computer science or a related discipline and have a track record of research in (ideally model based) distributed systems design, management or analysis methods including strong publications.

Essential skills include hands-on experience of modern distributed architectures such as cloud computing, network function virtualisation, or big data processing technologies, combined with experience of day-to-day leadership of research ideally including supervision of more junior staff.

Familiarity with cyber security risk analysis or applied research leading to real-world solutions would be an advantage but is not essential.

Application Procedure

You should submit your completed online application form at https://jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Hannah Farrance (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 2507. Please quote reference 1155219FP on all correspondence.

In order for your application to be considered, please upload a covering letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a list of publications (if not included in your CV) and one sample of a recent publication.

The post is intended to start as soon as possible.
