Research Fellow on Distributed Optical Fibre Sensings

Salary:   £30,395 to £37,345 per annum

You will join the optical fibre sensor group in relation to the detection of vibrations for traffic monitoring. The project aims to develop novel sensors that exploit distributed Rayleigh scattering for the monitoring of vehicles moving along a busy road and accessibility in case of natural disasters. 

It is essential you have strong experience in optical fibres and are able to perform unsupervised research on optical fibre sensors. You will have a PhD* or professional qualifications and experience in Photonics, Optoelectronics, Electronics or Engineering.  Experience of optical fibre sensors, devices or lasers would be advantageous.  Once trained you will be required to perform complex experiments with limited supervision. Experience in electronic engineering is also desirable.

This is a full time fixed term post until 31/12/2021.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
