The University of Southampton has an exciting opportunity for a Research Computing Systems Engineer to assist in the development and support of its high performance and data intensive computing services. 

The University views high performance and data intensive computing systems as strategic enablers to its research mission and is one of the top supercomputing sites in the UK. Our latest multi-million-pound facility delivers petascale computational and data services alongside private cloud and multi-petabyte storage services to thousands of researchers in our community.

Combined with a conscientious and systematic approach, you will be given the opportunity to expand your expertise and knowledge into newly emerging areas. You will be encouraged and challenged to develop and support new computational and data services, aligned to diverse, cutting-edge research programmes here at the University.

As a successful candidate, you will join the team responsible for the development and delivery of state of the art computational and data intensive services. You will have solid Linux systems administration skills and an enthusiasm for developing creative solutions. You will have the ability to work independently as well as being an effective team player. Understanding the use of High Performance and/or Cloud Computing environments is highly desirable, as is experience of parallel file systems, OpenStack environments or large-scale storage systems. Big Data analytics skills would also be a distinct advantage.
