Applications are invited for a full time permanent role as an Experimental Officer at the University of Southampton. You will join our interdisciplinary team to provide technical support for research
in Hydrodynamics and Ecohydraulics. This encompasses working on the Highfield,
Boldrewood and Chilworth Campuses (all close to the centre of Southampton) and some off site field studies.
You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Engineering, Physical sciences or a related discipline.
You will be responsible for managing activities in the testing facilities where
cutting edge research work is conducted.
A key part of the role will be the strategic development of the facilities, designing, developing and building specialist experimental apparatus and liaising with the Home Office with respect to the maintenance of our fish holding facilities. Maintaining and ensuring safe operation of the facilities on all sites. You will be comfortable with using electrical / electronic systems along with experience of using a wide range of transducers and sensors.
You will be the Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer for
activities within the Group and responsible for ethics and all training and
health and safety aspects for students and staff using the facilities, as well
as engaging in consultancy and teaching activities. Ideally you will have a
full UK driving licence to enable the use of University transportation but this this not essential as alternative arrangements could be made.
