ECMC Cancer Research UK

We are looking to appoint a full time Laboratory Technician to support new neuroblastoma early phase clinical trials with a focus on immunological monitoring. You will have relevant laboratory experience in a responsible role, display a high level of motivation and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently. The role is funded by the Little Princess Trust.

The post holder will be part of the Southampton ECMC based in the WISH laboratory, University Hospital Southampton.

Neuroblastoma is one of the commonest childhood cancers. Survival rates for this aggressive cancer are poor despite very intensive conventional therapies. However, immunotherapy shows considerable promise for children with this cancer, and Dr Juliet Gray and the team in Southampton are leading a number of international clinical trials to test new immunotherapeutic options.  This role will be to support these trials, by undertaking immunological assays on blood samples from patients recruited to these trials. You will be required to process a range of patient samples, within a highly quality controlled system, utilising immunomonitoring techniques. You will be required to comply with meticulous record keeping and database management for all processes undertaken, as well as fully comply with requirements of GCP for laboratories. Training will be provided where necessary. There will be the opportunity to work with other team members carrying out immunomonitoring on clinical trial samples performing flow cytometry, ADCC and other immune assays.

You will require a good understanding of the current health and safety regulations, and you must undergo occupational health clearance for the job role.

The appointment is full time, fixed-term for 3 years. For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit please contact Dr Juliet Gray (jcgray@soton.ac.uk) or Dr Debora Joseph-Pietras (d.joseph-pietras@soton.ac.uk).

Application Procedure

You should submit your completed online application form at https://jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Ita Holmes (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 9002. Please quote reference 1176819CM on all correspondence.
