QuantMig is a three-year project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme, and executed by a consortium of seven top European research institutions, led by the University of Southampton. The project, which you will contribute to, aims to transform the methodology of setting and analysing migration scenarios in order to more efficiently address the key contemporary challenges of complexity and uncertainty of migration flows, and to enable more timely and robust policy responses. The project is led by Professor Jakub Bijak, directing an interdisciplinary team of with expertise in different areas of migration studies.

You will be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a PhD in Economics, or a similar professional qualification, with a strong econometrics background; and knowledge of the economics of migration literature. Proficiency in the use of STATA or other equivalent statistical software; the ability to plan and organise work independently and as part of a team; and write research presentations and papers are also essential attributes.

This research position will be based in the Department of Economics, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. You will work under the day to day direction of Professor Jackie Wahba, Professor of Economics, as well as the QuantMig Project Manager and other faculty members and researchers on the project, both within Southampton and partner institutions across Europe.  We also envisage maintaining close working relationships and information exchange with the ESRC Centre for Population Change, whose hub is at the University of Southampton (www.cpc.ac.uk).

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof. Jackie Wahba, email: j.wahba@soton.ac.uk, telephone: +44 (0)23 8059 3996.
