Research Fellow in Offshore Renewable Energy (Geotechnics): Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering

You will undertake research associated with the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Chair in Emerging Technologies in Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering that will include theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects.  Your work will include the development of geotechnical site investigation tools to be deployed, operated and retrieved with reduced vessel support, and development of a design methods to derive geotechnical engineering parameters from such smarter tools. You will also be involved in co-supervising associated PhD projects and UG/MSc student projects within the Characterisation work package.

You will be based at the new National Infrastructure Laboratory on the University’s Boldrewood Innovation Campus with access to the Geotechnical Lab, Geotechnical Centrifuge Facility, Hydrodynamics Facility and maker spaces.

Maritime Engineering is co-located with Lloyd’s Register’s Marine division on the Boldrewood Innovation Campus providing the opportunity for this project to include development of design guidance for the adoption of new site investigation tools and methods.

The outcome of this project will be improved methods to test, in situ, and characterise the seafloor in a more efficient manner, with a reduced requirement for vessel support.

To be successful you will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in geotechnics.*
