The Astronomy Group of the University of Southampton's School of Physics & Astronomy invites you to join our team to manage operations of the VISTA Extragalactic Infrared Legacy Survey and exploit infrared time domain data in the near-IR. As part of this work, you will have the opportunity to collaborate in  exciting cutting edge science on industrial-scale AGN dust reverberation mapping, supernova cosmology with infrared light curves, and/or the detection and characterisation of infrared transients.

Applications are welcome from both junior and more senior researchers from a range of backgrounds consistent with the science goals of VEILS. Your involvement in the projects will be tailored to your experience.

The candidate will hold a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in astronomy, astrophysics, or related discipline

The Southampton Astronomy Group provides a collegial environment with many opportunities to collaborate with other group members. Our main research themes are compact objects and time-domain astrophysics. The position will provide you with time and resources to explore and develop independent research.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
