We are seeking an outstanding individual to join the Cancer Survivorship and End of Life Research Group to work on a study on quality of care for children at end of life.The role will be situated within the School Health Sciences at the University of Southampton

As a Research Fellow on the study, you will be responsible for leading the planning, coordination and delivery of high quality research, with the support of the Professor Anne-Sophie Darlington and Dr Katherine Hunt. The post holder will be responsible for planning and conducting data collection, analysis and interpretation, and dissemination of findings.

This exciting study focuses on understanding quality of care for children and young people at end of life. Part of the work will include developing and refining a survey, which can be used in a study to assess the influence of quality of care on outcomes for children and parents, before and after death. As part of the work, you will be tasked with carrying out interviews with parents, as well as finding novel ways to explore the experiences of young people at end of life. You will be tasked with collecting data, analysing data to refine the survey and managing and coordinating the study to assess quality of care, and writing for reports and scientific publications.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Health Psychology or a related area, such as health services research, child health, nursing and have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of research with children and young people (desirable)
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of end of life care research (desirable)
  • Proven ability to organise a range of high quality research activities to deadline and quality standards
  • Excellent communication and paper writing skills with a track record of published research. 

You will need to work effectively with members of the study team. You will also need to work effectively with health care professionals in different organisations, and members of the public/service users to develop, deliver and disseminate the work of the research project.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
