Enabling Services is seeking to appoint committed people to work with disabled students at Winchester School of Art (WSA) – applicants must be able to travel to the WSA campus. The duties will include note taking, study assistance and practical assistance in academic settings around the campus. 

Although some work will be through remote teaching and learning, LSAs recruited in the September 2020 intake must be able to safely travel to campus, and work in academic locations there. The ability to take notes directly on a laptop would be an advantage.

Candidates should be available from September 14 2020 for the academic year, ongoing positions tbc. 

You should have a good standard of education with at least 2 years of Higher Education as minimum. A degree or equivalent qualification would be desirable. Understanding of the higher education setting, academic learning situations, and an interest in some academic areas would be an advantage.

An excellent understanding of data protection issues and professional boundaries are also required. In addition, you will need good concise communication skills, written and interpersonal, plus time management and personal organisation.

You will also have the ability to demonstrate appropriate sensitivity to the needs of disabled students in a positive, enabling and non-judgemental manner and to work in a facilitative manner within the remit of the role.

Training in Notetaking Skills will be provided, and you will need to attend in order to work as a notetaker, or provide evidence of an equivalent qualification. Additional job training is given.

The hours of work vary, depending on the student timetable, but will usually be consistent across the semester; you will need to be able to offer at least 10 hours per week in term time. Appointment is subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

The hourly rate for this post is £11.31 per hour (plus holiday pay).

The closing date for this position is Friday 14th August at 5pm. Interviews will be on 3rd -4th September. Training will be on 16th-17th September and work will start in late September. Interviews and training may be on campus, or through remote means – successful applicants will be informed nearer the time.

  • Assignments offered throughout UniWorkforce are casual roles. The start and end dates specified are the expected dates, but these can change without notice and there is no guarantee of work for the duration of the assignment and no notice period require on either side.   • Casual workers are paid a month in arrears. Pay day is on the last working day of each month. This means that, depending on your start date, it could be up to eight weeks before you receive your first payment. 
  • Interviews will take place before assignments are offered.
