PhD Description: Oxidative and electrophilic stress are series of complex cellular responses to normal physiological and pathophysiological processes. Cellular adaptations have allowed for exposure to a variety of reactive molecules or intermediates by evolution of defence mechanisms which scavenge these intermediates and repair the damage caused. There is a current interest in the mechanistic understanding of oxidative and electrophilic stress, particularly resulting from exposure to chemicals which induce a variety of stress responses. This project will employ a range of cell biology, proteomic and bioinformatic approaches to bring new understanding of the crucial roles oxidative and electrophilic stress play in allergic skin sensitisation.

The project is funded for 4 years and welcomes applicants from the UK who have or expect to obtain at least an upper second class degree in Biological Sciences or allied subjects. Funding will cover fees and a stipend at current research council rates of £15,285 per annum for 2020/21.
