Based at the University of Southampton you will be working on the Future Transport Zone (FTZ) programme, a £28.75 million project funded by the Department for Transport to trial innovative and sustainable ways to move people and goods. This is a multidisciplinary project in collaboration with the University of  Portsmouth and Solent Transport, comprising Southampton City Council, Portsmouth City Council, Isle of Wight Council, and Hampshire County Council. The University of Southampton will develop and test a  Mobility as a Service (MaaS) App in collaboration with a MaaS provider and investigate travel behaviour change to reduce private car usage, making travel journeys smarter and greener within the Solent sub-region. The University will also undertake monitoring and evaluation to assess the extent that the programme will change travel behaviour, reduce congestion,  improve air quality, tackle climate change and transform the Solent sub-region into a better place to live and work.

  1. Senior Research Fellow (Fixed term for three years) and

  2. Research Fellow (Fixed Term for two years) in Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

You will be responsible for the development and application of primary research to assist in the design and testing of the MaaS tool. This will use the principles of User Centred Ecological Interface Design (including Cognitive Work Analysis) and Iterative Inclusive Design to test up to four cycles of the design and development process. You will liaise with other academics at the Universities of Portsmouth and Southampton working on barriers and drivers to the uptake of MaaS, and the impacts of MaaS on travel behaviour and the environment. The findings and methods developed are expected to be of sufficient scientific novelty and application that they will lead to publications in leading transport scientific journals.

It is essential you have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in travel behaviour analysis, inclusive design and/or human factors engineering.

3.       Specialist Technician (Fixed term for three years)

You will assist in the design, execution and curation of Solent Future Transport Zone (FTZ)-related data collection exercises, particularly with respect to the Mobility as a Service project, including ethics applications, procurement and data management. In addition, you will contribute to academic and other publications for the FTZ programme to ensure a high quality of output is achieved and recorded. With qualifications to degree level (or equivalent professional experience), you will have experience of data collection and project management in a relevant technical field, with a proven ability in successfully planning and progressing data collection activities.

Equality, diversity and inclusion is central to the ethos in the School of Engineering. We particularly encourage women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME), LGBT and disabled applicants to apply for this position.
