The University of Southampton requires an apprentice to join its technical support team within the School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES). You will be based primarily at the Waterfront Campus, providing technical support for a wide range of educational activities, including supporting our teaching laboratories and assisting with fieldwork in a variety of different environments (e.g. rocky shore, estuarine and offshore). 

You will learn to use and maintain specialist laboratory and field equipment and demonstrate its use to our undergraduate and postgraduate students, and you will be working closely with our technical team to provide support for marine biology and biogeochemistry teaching practical sessions, and students completing their final year research projects. There will also be opportunities to support the Research Aquarium and participate in our annual residential field courses in Plymouth and Dale.

The apprenticeship will be a combination of learning on the job, guided by our highly experienced technical team, together with off the job training/study with our training provider Fareham College. On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a qualified Laboratory Technician and will have a full time permanent position at the University.

Salary:

Year 1: £6.61p/h (60%)
Year 2: £7.71p/h (70%)
Upon completion of apprenticeship: £11.01p/h (100%) Level 2B, Spine Point 13, £20,675 per annum.
