Salary:   £31,406 to £38,587 per annum

We are looking for someone to join our creative and innovative team. We transform business and society, from healthcare to the creative industries, using state-of-the-art advances in software and data technologies. Members of our team commonly work on more than one project and move between projects to maximise their effectiveness and develop their careers.

You will be responsible for the design and development of software systems that validate, demonstrate and prototype outcomes of research. You will collaborate with end-users from different sectors and your colleagues to develop systems by using your problem-solving and engineering skills. You will demonstrate the value of novel technologies to end users and work towards adoption.  

There is considerable potential for career development, through work such as development of commercial products and services in partnership with industry, consultancy, conceptualising and bidding new projects, leading to a Senior Enterprise Fellow positions and beyond.

To be successful it is essential you have the following:

  • Programming skills in at last one of Python, Java or C++
  • Experience of agile development methodologies and DevOps
  • PhD or an equivalent professional qualifications and experience in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline.
  • The desire to learn new languages and technologies, and to write high-quality software.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience of system modelling paradigms such as OO, SOA and Cloud
  • Relational data modelling and manipulation using SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL or MySQL)
  • Experience of web technologies and REST APIs.

We offer competitive salary, 30 days holiday a year plus bank holidays and up to 6 University closure days, flexible working, and the option to join the USS pension scheme with a 21.1% employer contribution.

This is a full-time post for a period of 12 months, renewable subject to funding. We wish the post to start as soon as possible.
