Student and Education Services is responsible for the delivery of all elements of the student experience in relation to student administration, support and co- and extra-curricular student facing provision at the University. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team as this new division is developed with our ambition to provide a best-in-class student experience aligned to our new University strategy. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Student Engagement Team as Student Events and Communities Lead.

The role

Reporting to our Head of Student Engagement, the successful postholder will lead a team that is responsible for planning and delivering student-focused co- and extra-curricular events and campaigns, which create a sense of belonging and proactively engage our students as proud members of our community. The core area of responsibility will include the delivery of the University’s Graduation events as well as other high-profile event initiatives throughout the academic year that recognise the achievements of our students. This summer, the University is holding ‘Super Graduation’, a three-day event at St. Mary’s Stadium celebrating our class of 2020, 2021 and 2022. The successful postholder will have the exciting opportunity to build upon this year’s Graduation events and strengthen our links with venues in Southampton City for future events.

What we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant passion for working collaboratively with students
  • Experience in event management roles, however this does not need to be specifically within Higher Education
  • The ability to quickly develop relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues from across the University and Student Union
  • Proven experience of creating and delivering innovative and exciting events and activities
  • Experience in leading a team is desirable

Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification related to events management is also an essential requirement for the role.

Some of our student events will be delivered outside of core working hours, therefore you will need to be willing to demonstrate some flexibility in your working hours. If you thrive on variety and are comfortable juggling a broad range of responsibilities, then we would very much like to hear from you!

As a university we aim to create an inclusive environment that attracts, supports and retains the best students and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences from across the world.

The Student and Education Service is proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We select candidates on the basis of merit and ability, and aspire to thrive in the diversity of our workforce. We welcome applications from all candidates with an interest in the role and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+; and people with disabilities.
