We are hunting for a tenacious Database Administrator to join our dedicated team committed to providing high-quality database solutions to the University’s community of over 25,000 staff and students.

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton and its Database management team within iSolutions (the University’s IT department). The Database management team is undertaking hugely important role within the University and strive to go above and beyond industry standards.

About the Role

You will be delivering database solutions in support of the University’s ever-evolving IT needs.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic DBA who wants to learn new skills and progress within the field. This is a meaningful role where you will be supporting the world-changing research and teaching the University undertakes.

 What you’ll do 

  • Take a leading role in delivering and maintaining the University’s Databases platforms.
  • Work directly with the University community to deliver flexible and innovative database solutions
  • Proactively, work with a wide range of the University’s communities to deliver the best performing databases possible
  • Take a leading role in the planning of major systems installations and upgrades.
  • Create documentation, training and automated testing.
  • Provide third-line support for the team’s areas of responsibility.

What you’ll bring 

  • Your fantastic design and implementation skills to bring new services and solutions to the University and support them throughout their entire lifecycle, in support of the University’s core mission.
  • Your excellent inter-personal skills to work directly with the University community to capture requirements, produce mock-ups and agree implementation details.
  • Your brilliant engineering skills to create innovative solutions using agreed tools to meet the identified requirements.
  • Your fabulous communication skills to work in collaboration with colleagues, to propose new and innovative solutions to organisational challenges and make recommendations for continual improvement of systems and services.
