Senior Software Engineer

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton and its Integration and Automation Services team within the University’s IT department, iSolutions.

About the Role

This is a key role in support of the IAM project & current underpinning services.

The primary goal is to help maintain our current structure which underpins the University’s Digital Strategy aims for Organisational Excellence. This will align the identity system with the University's strategic growth plan, especially supporting the international growth agenda and desire to provide a more personalised digital experience for staff and students.

What you’ll do

Work closely with our developers to gain experience in a technical development software role.

Support and development of our Identity management system (IDM) as a member of the existing team of developers.

Work on the existing technical requirements of the current system by small projects to implement new features and help patch security holes and bugs.

To support those developments by means of documentation, training, automated testing and providing third-line support for the team’s areas of responsibility.

In collaboration with colleagues, to propose new and innovative solutions to organisational challenges and make recommendations for continual improvement of systems and services.

To automate the management and delivery of IT platforms in collaboration with architects to produce sustainable solutions that remove repetitive or time-consuming tasks, enabling intervention by exception, continuous improvement, continuous delivery, and a concentration on customer experience.

What you’ll bring

  • An eagerness and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work closely with other developers.
  • Experience delivering and working with some of the following:
  1. Azure
  2. Security by design
  3. CI/CD (continuous integration/delivery) 
  4. Authentication
  5. Process and system automation
  6. RESTful APIs
  • Experience in programming in one or more of the following:
  1. C#
  2. SQL
  3. PowerShell
  4. gRPC
  5. TypeScript/JavaScript
  • The ability to present your ideas and your specialist area to a wide and potentially non-technical audiences.
