Lecturer or Associate Professor in Magnetic Resonance

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton welcomes applications for Lecturer or Associate Professor in Magnetic Resonance. The successful candidate will strengthen our thriving research culture within the triple helix strategy of the University, which seeks to achieve cross-fertilisation between research, education and enterprise activity. The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities.

Magnetic Resonance includes groups from three faculties. Five PIs with multiple UK and international grants are in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, with others from Biological Sciences and Medicine, and a dedicated research engineer. We operate a large research facility with eight high-field NMR instruments, EPR and various low-field and benchtop systems. Instrumentation for solution and solid-state NMR includes specialist (sometimes world-unique) capabilities, often with custom components for small scale MRI and cryogenic, field-cycling, microfluidic, parahydrogen-enhanced, metabolomic, supercritical fluid, high temperature and high-pressure NMR.

Commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion.

What we can offer you

A collegiate research-led School that strongly values contributions in education and enterprise.

An outstanding research environment in Magnetic Resonance, with extensive expertise and a well-established research facility.

Access to sector-leading high performance computing facilities and a university commitment to maintain that sector-leading position.

The University of Southampton values diversity and equality, and we actively encourage applications from under-represented groups. We are delighted to hold the Race Equality Charter Bronze Award 2022, and both institutional and departmental Athena SWAN silver awards. We recognise that employees may wish to have working patterns that fit with caring responsibilities or work-life balance. Due consideration will be given to applicants who have had career breaks for maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability or illness.

Interviews will take place in person in Southampton. Southampton is well connected – just over an hour from central London and with an international airport, but with beautiful surroundings on the south coast and in the New Forest.
