The Southampton High Energy Physics group invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in quantum field theory, gravity, string theory and holography, starting from 1st October 2017.
The successful applicant will join the newly created Southampton Theory Astronomy and Gravity (STAG) research centre which bridges the Departments of Physics and Mathematics. Members of STAG working on the overlap between quantum field theory and gravitation include Professor Tim Morris, Professor Nick Evans, Dr Andy O’Bannon and Dr James Drummond in Physics and Professor Kostas Skenderis, Dr Oscar Dias, Dr Carlos Mafra and Dr Marika Taylor in Mathematics. The successful applicant will have a track record of research in black hole holography including EPR=ER & flavour brane physics, and will contribute to the development of the research group.
The remaining research interests of the theoretical particle physics group include: LHC phenomenology, physics beyond the standard model, cosmology, neutrino physics, exact renormalization group, and lattice QCD. The gravitation group in Mathematics also focuses on applications of General Relativity to astrophysics including gravitational waves, neutron stars and black holes.
The post is an STFC-funded research fellow for two years, subject to review at the end of the first year.
