Faculty of Medicine

A post is available for a researcher to work on a project funded by a four year NIHR Health Technology Assessment Grant led by Professor Glyn Lewis at University College London. The project, entitled “ANTidepressants to prevent reLapse in dEpRession” (ANTLER), is a collaboration between the Universities of Bristol, York, Southampton and UCL. The aim of the ANTLER randomised controlled trial (RCT) is to investigate the effectiveness of long term maintenance antidepressant treatment in the prevention of relapse in depression. The post holder will be required to collect data for the ANTLER RCT and ensure that the data collection is conducted within research governance and good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines. Contact with participants may necessitate evening/weekend working and therefore a degree of flexibility of working hours is required, as is travelling throughout the designated study areas. The post holder will be expected to function largely autonomously, and take responsibility for carrying out practice visits and patient assessments, with the support of the local Principal Investigators Professors Tony Kendrick and Michael Moore, and the study team at UCL. The post holder will be expected to follow research protocols and study procedures, liaise effectively with collaborators, and assist with any other research-related tasks that may be agreed with the Principal Investigators.

You should have: a PhD* or equivalent qualifications and research experience in a health-related subject; quantitative research skills; evidence of the ability to work independently and efficiently; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience of working on a clinical trial, and working with NHS general practices, are essential, and knowledge of mental health issues would be an advantage.

The post-holder will be located in the Department of Primary Medical Care (at Aldermoor Health Centre), within the Academic Unit of Primary Care and Population Sciences.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
