Maternity cover - part-time/full-time

Applications are invited for the position of Communications Manager to provide Maternity Cover at the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) based in Social Sciences at the University of Southampton

The NCRM has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) since 2004 and since 2015 has been a collaborative partnership between the Universities of Southampton, Manchester and Edinburgh. NCRM was tasked to increase the quality and range of methodological approaches used by UK social scientists through a programme of training and capacity building, and with driving forward methodological development and innovation through its own research programme.

As part of the NCRM support team of 6 staff in Southampton, you will take the lead in delivering the Centre’s external communications, including management and development of online learning resources, as well as promoting the full range of Centre activities to the social science community both nationally and internationally. You will maintain oversight of the Centre’s engagement and communications with key academic and non-academic organizations. You will play a key role in the promotion and organization of the Research Methods Festival to be held in July 2018 in Bath.

Educated to postgraduate degree level, or equivalent experience, you will have excellent organisational skills and communications experience in an academic, research or similar environment and experience of brand management and integrated communication campaigns. 

You will have excellent IT skills and strong knowledge of relevant systems for web content development, design and maintenance, management of social media channels and audiovisual production. You will have effective negotiation skills, capable of building and maintaining organisational networks to support the Centre’s objectives. 

The position is tenable from 1 April to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 months with a possibility of extension depending on the return date of the individual.The position is offered on a full time or part time basis.
