            <p style="margin-left:0cm;">The Cancer Research UK core funded Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), based at Southampton General Hospital, has expertise in the design, conduct and publication of clinical trials and other well-designed studies from first-in-human phase I to practice changing phase III trials. Managing a growing portfolio (75% cancer, 25% non-cancer) that covers the complete spectrum of clinical practice, from primary care through to tertiary referral medicine, including pan-cancer experimental therapeutics, surgery, radiotherapy and early diagnosis. Undertaking academically sponsored multi-centre early and late phase clinical trials, we work nationally and internationally to create the evidence for patient benefit that will directly influence routine clinical practice in the NHS and overseas.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">Due to expansion, we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Trial Manager to join the existing cancer portfolio team. The Senior Trial Manager will be responsible for the oversight of trials ensuring they are delivered according to required standards, time and budget. This is a senior post within the CTU with advisory, leadership, engagement, and line management responsibilities.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The appointed Senior Trial Manager will work specifically on a single trial developing SCTU expertise into clinical collaboration opportunities with industry partners, where an academically sponsored trial will result is supporting MHRA drug licencing, which aims to fulfil faster movement from research to patient access.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The successful candidate will have significant experience of trial management gained through working on interventional clinical trials, including experience of IMP management, and have excellent knowledge of legislation, regulation and governance environments relating to clinical trials. The Senior Trial Manager will be required to work with multiple stakeholders so must have an excellent communication style and experience of matrix management, as well as the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be a good leader and line manager. Experience of regulatory affairs including submitting drugs for licencing would be an advantage.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">SCTU is a leading UK academic CTU located within the state-of-the-art Centre for Cancer Immunology building within the University of Southampton, based at Southampton General Hospital.             <p style="margin-left:0cm;" data-pasted="true"><strong>Southampton Clinical Trials Unit</strong></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The University of Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is a Cancer Research UK core-funded, UKCRC registered trials unit. The unit supports researchers across the UK and internationally to help design, conduct, analyse and disseminate clinical trials and observational studies that target important clinical and social health care questions.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;"><strong>The role</strong></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The unit is seeking to employ a senior medical statistician with experience of working on clinical trials in a regulated environment. The post is covering maternity leave, and will have responsibilities for delivering the urological cancer portfolio, which includes two large phase 3 trials in bladder and prostate cancer. You will work with junior statisticians and statistical programmers to oversee delivery of trial reports. You will plan work and communicate with the Head of Group in Statistics to support management of workload across the team. You will lead communication with chief investigators and the wider trial team on methodological issues, and more broadly support the SCTU to deliver the assigned trials.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The role requires knowledge of the application of statistical methods to cancer trials, as well as activities relating to obtaining funding and dissemination of study results. Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata, SAS and/or R is essential. An applicant should be able to demonstrate an ability to work to timelines across multiple complex projects, and have experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;" data-pasted="true">Full-time or part-time (0.6FTE or above). This is a newly constructed, dedicated research building that is the result of a significant fund-raising campaign. It builds on a 40 year history of pioneering immunology and cancer research at Southampton, and represents the first dedicated cancer immunology centre in the UK. The activities in this centre span from pioneering discovery science to applied research and preclinical modelling and, crucially, onto first-in-human clinical trials and beyond. The centre houses world-class research facilities, including state-of-the-art scientific laboratories and a clinical trials unit.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The position is associated with the laboratory of Professors Ward and Ober. Their interdisciplinary research program is dedicated to the development of novel antibody-based therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and autoimmunity. This research has led to several therapeutics that are currently in advanced clinical trials or approved for clinical use. The group also develops advanced microscopy techniques for the evaluation of novel therapeutics in cellular environments. Their research is supported by major grants from the Welcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and support from collaborating biopharma companies.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The appointee will be highly motivated and excited by the challenges involved in supporting a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of researchers. The appointee&rsquo;s role will be to provide support with the day-to-day running of the laboratory by providing technical support for the experimental work of post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and graduate students, combined with the ordering and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and supplies. The position holder will be expected to be familiar with biosafety and other regulatory processes and follow these procedures as necessary.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">It is essential to have a skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 with proven work experience acquired in relevant technical support roles and job-related training. The role requires the ability to plan and organise your workload, work well under pressure and communicate effectively and professionally with other laboratory members. A scientific knowledge in a biological field equivalent to B.Sc. level is extremely desirable.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The post-holder will possess relevant academic qualifications and work experience as well as good IT skills.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The position is for one year.
