            <p style="margin-left:0cm;" data-pasted="true">An exciting opportunity for someone with previous clinical trials experience to join the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), within the University of Southampton, in an important role as Senior Trials Manager (STM) within the Early Diagnosis and Translational Group.&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">SCTU is a leading UK academic CTU located within the state-of-the-art Centre for Cancer Immunology building at Southampton General Hospital. <a href="https://www.southampton.ac.uk/research/institutes-centres/clinical-trials-unit">Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) | University of Southampton</a></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">SCTU is a UKCRC registered CTU and is core-funded by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) together with funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) via the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Research Support Service (RSS).&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">SCTU has expertise in the design, conduct and publication of clinical trials and other well-designed studies from first-in-human phase I to practice changing phase III trials to large early diagnosis observational studies with rich translational data. Managing a growing portfolio (75% cancer, 25% non-cancer) that covers the complete spectrum of clinical practice, from primary care through to tertiary referral medicine, including pan-cancer experimental therapeutics, surgery, radiotherapy and early diagnosis. Undertaking multi-centre early and late phase clinical trials, we work nationally and internationally to create the evidence for patient benefit that will directly influence routine clinical practice in the NHS and overseas.&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">As part of the CRUK and NIHR infrastructure we have close working relationships with our partners, including the Southampton Experimental Cancer Research Centre, NIHR BRC &amp; RSS, University Hospital Southampton, the Centre for Cancer Immunology discovery community and CRUK Centres and Institutes across the UK, with an increasing number of international collaborations.&nbsp;</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The Senior Trials Manager will lead the relevant portfolio team to ensure effective delivery of the overall strategy and delivery priorities for SCTU. We are a world-leading research-intensive university, renowned for innovation, and rank within the top 1% worldwide.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;"><strong>About the position&nbsp;</strong></p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">An exciting opportunity has arisen at the newly configured Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre (LEC) at the University of Southampton for a Senior Statistical Epidemiologist with an interest in musculoskeletal health research.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The successful applicant will help deliver the analytical strategy and advanced statistical methods for the Arthritis UK Stratification of Osteoarthritis to promote LiVing well and treatment Effectiveness (SOLVE) Research Consortium. The consortium brings together leading UK researchers to identify subtypes, mechanisms and risk factors in osteoarthritis to improve care. The post-holder will work with large epidemiological cohorts (including UK Biobank and the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)) to quantify risk relationships, elucidate mechanisms, and develop a clinical risk prediction tool for hip or knee replacement.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The LEC at the University of Southampton, reconfigured from forerunning MRC infrastructure, hosts world leading research into the determinants and mechanisms of chronic musculoskeletal diseases of ageing, principally osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and sarcopenia.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The successful applicant must have an MSc in statistics or a closely related discipline, as well as a PhD, and have experience working as a statistical epidemiologist. Previous experience of implementing machine learning methods and developing research funding applications is desirable. This post requires excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.</p><p style="margin-left:0cm;">The post-holder will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their time physically present at the LEC, located on the Southampton General Hospital site.
