This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly motivated, high performing Visa and Immigration Student Advice Service (VISAS Team) at the University of Southampton.  

The VISAS Team were shortlisted for the Vice Chancellors Award in 2018 for exceptional contribution toward efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the University.  The work of the team has ensured ongoing compliance as a Tier 4 sponsor and this resulted in the University being awarded Tier 4 pilot status in 2018.

The work of the VISAS Team covers two broad areas:

  • Visa and immigration guidance – assisting students and their dependants.  This includes CAS issuance for continuing students and postgraduate research students.

  • Compliance and reporting – monitoring attendance and ensuring that the University and its students remain compliant with Home Office regulations.

The VISAS Team works closely with the Student Services Centre, other colleagues in SAA (particularly Admissions and Student Records), the International Office and other professional services.  We also have strong links with the Police Nationalities Office and liaise frequently with the Home Office.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a strong customer service ethos, be able to follow procedures and regulations and yet be creative in suggesting improvements to develop the service.  They will ideally have experience in working within an Higher Education environment (eg admissions, student records) and have some knowledge of the UK’s immigration regulations.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able communicate effectively and persuasively to staff, customers and other stakeholders. 

This role involves assisting in the planning of key University events; previous events management experience is therefore desirable.

This post is only open to EEA and Swiss nationals as the successful candidate will need to be cleared by the Home Office to handle Biometric Residence Permits (BRP).
