We are recruiting a Records Management Officer to join us. This is a brand new role to the team, reflecting our continued investment to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), patients and the public now and in the future.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle income countries.

What is the role?

Working closely with our Information Governance Team, you will provide proactive Records Management support, offering specialist technical advice and ensuring that relevant strategies and policies are fit for purpose, effective and compliant with legislation. Some of the key responsibilities include: 

  • Oversee the lifecycle management of records, from creation to destruction
  • Leading the review and updating of our Records Management policy framework
  • Leading together with the Project Manager an internal Migration Project ensuring retentions are appropriately applied and Records Management considerations are thought of from the start
  • Maintaining and updating Information Asset Registers and Records Retention Schedules
  • Giving an initial response and ad hoc advice in relation to Records Management 
  • Working together with the Information Governance and Compliance Officer on ensuring relevant legislations and policies are adhered to 

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a self-motivated individual with knowledge and experience of Records Management legal and statutory requirements as well as best practice approaches including Data Protection Act 2018 /UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004, Limitation Act 1980,  BS ISO 15489-1:2016 and BS 100025:2021. Some of the key skills we are looking for include:

  • Excellent communication skills - with the ability to translate complex and technical information to a range of stakeholders
  • Able to work proactively, including using own initiative to problem solve
  • Works well under pressure and capable of working to deadlines
  • Able to build and maintain strong, productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Comfortable interpreting legislation, codes of practice and statutory guidance

The role is offered at 35 hours per week, but we will consider part time hours to 28 hours. Please contact us before applying to discuss your specific needs.
