Manager - Health & Care Research*

Are you passionate about making a difference in health and care research and want to join a team that values your skills and ideas?

Due to continued investment within our Research Management teams we are looking to recruit Research Managers to join our teams within our National Institute of Health and Care Research co-ordinating centre in Southampton. We have both permanent and one 18 month Fixed Term contract available.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle income countries.

Further information on the NIHR can be found at: www.nihr.ac.uk. In particular, you are encouraged to review our operational priorities and to watch this introductory video.

What will you be doing?

Research Management is an interesting and varied role, and includes:

  • Responsibility for the delivery, and continuous improvement, of a specified part of the research management lifecycle
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships at all levels, including with public and patients.
  • Project manage and contribute to team and NIHR projects using specialist knowledge
  • Carry out detailed assessment and analysis of issues and problems then recommending and implementing appropriate solutions
  • Please note you will not be undertaking research yourself; this is a research management role where you will oversee a stage of research.

We have research managers overseeing the whole life cycle of the research process. Whilst we appreciate candidates may have an interest in a particular area, we do expect our Research Managers to be flexible in their approach to work and willing to work across teams.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for passionate individuals who are hard-working, dedicated, and flexible in their approach. Some of the key skills required are:

  • Understanding the health research landscape, with knowledge and experience of a relevant research management activity.
  • Able to develop and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing, analytical and critical appraisal skills.
  • Confident in providing accurate and timely specialist guidance on complex issues

What can we offer you?

We recognise that our staff are at the heart of what we do so we make sure we look after you! As well as a generous benefits package (full details can be found here!), as an organisation we prioritise your wellbeing as reflected in  the Mind Workplace Wellbeing awards, where we have achieved Gold for the fifth year in a row!

Our hybrid working approach helps you with your work life balance and offers you the chance to split your time between office and home working. We strive for cohesive and collaborative teams so our expectation is you spend around 20% of your time in the office. We also know that personal development is important and have a range of ways to support you with this.
