Research Fellow in Health Economics

We are pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity to join the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education (PPM) as a Research Fellow in Health Economics. 

The University of Southampton (UoS) is a global centre for excellence in research and education and a founding member of the Russell Group. Health Economists play an integral role to the multi-disciplinary ethos of the School of PPM in the Faculty of Medicine. The successful applicant will join our Health Economic team and help deliver the health economic analyses and outputs for applied healthcare research projects funded by NIHR and other major funders. This post provides an excellent opportunity to build collaborations with Clinical Trial Units and collaborators across a number of universities.

The post holder will be encouraged to network with other health economists across the UoS, including in the Southampton Health Technology Assessment Centre which review, summarise and critique evidence for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/research/institutes-centres/southampton-health-technology-assessments-centre).

The Health Economic team develop and deliver health economic research and teaching for medical undergraduates and public health postgraduates. There will be opportunities to contribute teaching, assessment and other roles within the faculty depending on interests and career plans. 

We seek to appoint an individual who shares the UoS’s core values (Egalitarian, Environmental sustainability, Transformational leadership, Agility, Collaborative) and is looking to grow their health economics career by gaining applied experience. The successful candidate will need a minimum of an MSc in health economics or other related quantitative discipline (e.g. decision modelling, operational research, data science or statistics) and have a detailed understanding and knowledge of health economics. A candidate holding a PhD or equivalent experience is desirable as is experience of teaching.  

This is initially a fixed term post with funding for 5 years, extension beyond this is subject to further external funding being secured at which point the postholder can apply for permanency in line with the university HR policy. The post is available full-time but applicants wishing to apply part time or to job share will be considered, please indicate your preference when applying. We are open to considering flexible working patterns in line with appropriate University policy.
