Assistant Maintenance Manager

We are currently one of the world’s top 100 universities – but we are determined to continue climbing the ranks. You will play an instrumental role in this by supporting maintenance and refurbishment projects which maintain and enhance the learning and living environment for our diverse student population, and the working environment for our staff.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Residential Estates Team for an experienced Assistant Maintenance Manager to join our established team to carry out the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance and refurbishment projects across the Halls of Residences estate. The basic hours are 35 hours per week but there will be a requirement to manage your workload at given points of the year to enable delivery.

You will have excellent technical and communication skills, with the ability also to plan and manage your own workload. You will be a positive and proactive problem solver and have the ability to manage a mixture of planned and reactive maintenance / refurbishment at the same time to ensure that work is delivered on time and to a high standard. You will be a strong team player, but also be self-sufficient and able to work independently.

The successful candidate will hold a qualification or have the relevant industry and job experience.  They will be familiar with H&S legislation and understanding of risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments and how to apply these to projects.

A full driving license in order to travel to other local sites is essential.

We offer some fantastic benefits including generous annual leave (plus University closure days and bank holidays), company pension scheme, discounted private healthcare and dental, company sick pay, options for flexible working, excellent family leave arrangements, a wide variety of on and off-campus arts and culture facilities and access to a range of staff discounts and offers at local shops, restaurants and service providers.

We will support your long-term future too, with access to the Universities Pension Scheme, subsidised health and fitness facilities and a range of discounts. Furthermore, Southampton, at the centre of the south coast,  is a fantastic place in which to live, work and socialise – so regardless of what life stage you are at, you will find a dynamic and vibrant city that caters for all.

We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We select candidates on the basis of merit and ability and aspire to thrive in the diversity of our workforce.  We welcome applications from all candidates with an interest in the role and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+; and people with disabilities.
