Financial Planning Accountant

The Role 

We are looking for a dynamic qualified accountant to join our Financial Planning Team in the Finance Department. You will meet essential statutory reporting requirements and play a key role in supporting the University strategy by providing management information on financial performance of subjects and activities and promoting good costing and pricing practice.

You will be responsible for the annual Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC) return to the Office for Students (OfS) which uses a sector-wide activity-based costing methodology to determine the surpluses and deficits of our core activities. 

You will be the main point of contact for the TRAC Steering Group, chaired by the Vice-President (Research & Enterprise) and interact frequently with Academics, Faculty Finance Teams and other Professional Services Staff.

You will also be an integral member of the Financial Planning team and support the section’s broader roles including business planning, budgeting, and management accounts. The role holder will be expected to drive improvements in analysis and insight provided to the University Senior Executive team.

About You 

You will need

•    A professional accountancy qualification and membership of a relevant body  

•    Experience of management accounting or costing 

•    A curious and analytical mindset with attention to detail and a drive for accuracy

•    Great organisational skills, managing deadlines and competing priorities  

•    Excellent IT skills particularly MS office systems and experience of managing large data sets

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
