Mechanical and Electrical Plant Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Plant Engineer to join a small Facilities team within the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. You will join the ORC as a Mechanical Plant Engineer to assist with planned and reactive maintenance tasks within Mountbatten building - which is a highly serviced, technical and complex building housing cleanrooms and optical laboratories.

The main duties will be ensuring that the cleanroom complex and optical labs are kept at optimal environmental working conditions via air handlers, water plants and various other mechanical supply systems. As part of the Facilities team, you will be central to the control of contractors, and along with the Engineering Supervisor you will be heavily involved with compliance of systems and audit trails for legislative compliance.

You will be an integral part of the On-Call rota and will be assigned (paid) overtime on a rota system and scheduled to cover after the completion of a comprehensive induction, and demonstration of competence.

It is essential you have experience of maintaining complex mechanical building systems and it would be an advantage if you hold an electrical qualification (although cross skill training will be given). The successful candidate must also have a good level of computer literacy with very good written and spoken English skills.

Training will be provided to the right candidate.
