Winchester School of Art is one of the UK's leading art schools and part of the University of Southampton, a founding member of the Russell Group. The Department of Art and Media Technology brings together academics, artists, designers, creative technologists, game makers, curators and researchers working across art, media, games, culture and technology. We are committed to experimentation, interdisciplinarity and the belief that making is a powerful way of understanding and shaping the world.
This is a particularly exciting time to join us. In 2026, the School moved into its new CreaTech facilities at Capital House, providing dedicated creative technology studios, fabrication and prototyping facilities, immersive and XR technologies, specialist computing resources and collaborative making spaces for students and staff.
The Role and About You
We are seeking an early-career academic, creative technologist, digital artist or practitioner to help shape the next generation of artists and creative technologists. This role will contribute primarily to our growing BSc Creative Computing and MSc Creative Technologies programmes, with opportunities to collaborate across Games Design & Art, Fine Art and our wider interdisciplinary portfolio.
We are particularly interested in people who see code not simply as a technical tool but as a creative medium for artistic expression, experimentation, play and critical making. Teaching may include areas such as creative coding, AI-assisted creative practice, physical computing, interaction design, web technologies, games, immersive media, data-driven art and emerging creative technologies.
You will have:
- Experience of creative computing, creative technologies, digital art, design, games or a related field.
- Experience of using coding, computational methods or digital technologies within your professional or creative practice.
- The ability to support students in developing creative, technical and critical skills through practical, project-based learning.
- An enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation.
- A commitment to inclusive, student-centred teaching and learning.
- An interest in research, enterprise, knowledge exchange or professional practice activities.
Candidates with a practice-based doctorate, or an interest in developing one, are particularly welcome, although a PhD is not required.
As part of the selection process, candidates will deliver a short teaching demonstration introducing a coding, computational or creative technology concept to students. The session will be open to members of the Department and will allow candidates to demonstrate their teaching style, ability to engage diverse learners, and approach to practice-based creative technology education. We are interested in technical expertise and the ability to make complex ideas accessible, creative and inspiring.
What We Can Offer You
