We are currently recruiting a Research Fellow to undertake research in the field of Infrared Detectors. The project will offer a stimulating interdisciplinary environment and access to unique samples with which to explore new areas of nanoscience. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team of approx. 12 PDRAs and numerous Ph.D students as part of a £6M, 5 year EPSRC funded project "Advanced Devices by Electroplating (ADEPT). The project will provide a breakthrough  in the devices that can be fabricated in the fields of phase change memory, thermo-electrics and infra-red detectors, by delivering a disruptive combination of feature size, device complexity and materials quality, through advanced electrodeposition of semiconducting materials; The programme is led by Prof. P. Bartlett FRS, president of the International Society of Electrochemistry, supported by investigators in Southampton's department of  Chemistry, Physics (Prof. David Smith) and Electronics (Prof. Kees. de Groot) as well as at the Universities of Nottingham and Warwick.

The successful candidate will be responsible for measuring and understanding the physical properties of the electrodeposited IR materials and devices and advising on how to optimise their properties. They will have a thorough grounding in the physics of semiconductors and optics. Knowledge of cleanroom processing techniques is advantageous but not essential. They will have good experimental skills and experience of characterising optoelectronic devices.  They will be able to use their basic physics knowledge to analyse and interpret experimental results, and innovate improved or new measurement techniques.
