We are seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher in the field of river bank erosion modelling to work on an UN FAO funded project on the Indus River in Pakistan

The post-holder will join the Earth Surface Dynamics research group within Geography and Environment, in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. The ESD research group has several research foci including: understanding the relationships between climate forcing, river channel morphodynamics, and sediment efflux from the Asian mega-rivers; understanding how deep-sea turbidity currents shape submarine meandering channels; development of cellular automaton modelling tools to simulate ecogeomorphological processes in dryland environments; and, investigations of landscape dynamics at the marine-terrestrial interface. The post is available at a ERE level 4 and is offered as a eighteen-month position.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, Oceanography, Earth Sciences) and an emerging profile of excellent academic publications.  It is essential that you have a background in modelling river bank erosion and/or lateral channel migration, ideally on large rivers affected by monsoonal flood pulses. You will have a fundamental understanding of hydraulics and computational methods and you will be able to contribute to developing the group’s research portfolio and publications. A willingness to travel overseas, specifically to the Indian sub-continent, is also necessary.
