3 years fixed term from 1st November 2019

We have the opportunity for a Senior Research Fellow to join the Neuroblastoma Immunotherapy Group under the supervision of Dr Juliet Gray. This group has a long-standing interest in translational immunotherapy for paediatric cancers, with a focus on the development and clinical trial of novel antibody therapies for neuroblastoma, one of the commonest and most aggressive of the paediatric malignancies.

The post will involve providing leadership and oversight to pre-clinical work optimising antibody therapies for neuroblastoma using established pre-clinical models, as well as work to support the portfolio of early phase paediatric immunotherapy trials. The latter will involve overseeing the immune monitoring of children recruited to clinical trials, as well as overseeing running existing assays (to GLP standards) as well as being involved in the development and validation of new assays. Such assays form key endpoints for these studies, and are essential to the running of these trials. Study samples for children recruited to the studies will be received from other UK Children’s Cancer Centres, and the post will involve liaison with research staff in these centres.

The successful candidate should have significant relevant research experience and be qualified to PhD level (or equivalent) and experience in biological sciences and previous research experience in the field of cancer immunotherapy or immunology. They will be highly motivated, with the ability to contribute actively to new research grant applications and collaborations.

They will be a good team player with excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of delivering research tasks timely and with accuracy. They will have a senior and supervisory role within a multi-disciplinary team that includes research technicians, PhD students and clinical trainees.  Experience of working with clinical samples and a good laboratory practice framework are desirable.

This post will be based primarily within the Centre for Cancer Immunology at Southampton General Hospital, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory based senior colleagues.

This is a 36-month, Fixed Term appointment in the first instance.
