The University of Southampton is seeking a motivated candidate with experience in Operational Research to work as a Research Fellow on a research project with the National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), the owner of the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. The Research Fellow will be a member of the Operational Research group within the School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Southampton, and of CORMSIS, the Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems, one of the largest and strongest groups of Operational Research/Management Science researchers in the UK.

The successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a topic closely related to Operational Research and Mathematical Optimisation. Knowledge of optimisation algorithms, as well as programming languages such as Python, C/C++/C#, Java or similar ones, is required. Previous experience of working or collaborating with industry is an advantage.

The post is full time fixed term with a scheduled finish date on 31 March 2021, although an extension of approximately 3 months may be possible. The Research Fellow will spend most of their time based at the University of Southampton, but will also participate in NGET workshops and dissemination activities.

The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
