As a signatory to a number of renowned Equality Charters, the University of Southampton is committed to continually improving and advancing equality for all of its students and staff. Working towards fulfilling the Charter requirements also enables the University to demonstrate how it internally applies the principle of changing the world for the better.

To support this important work, an Equality Charters Programme Team is being established within the Change Portfolio Office.  This will have an initial focus on overseeing the successful reaccreditation of a number of Equality Charter Marks at institutional level (including Athena SWAN and the Race Equality Charter).

About the role

Applications are invited for an experienced and highly motivated Programme Manager to lead this crucial programme and newly formed team. You will be a member of the Change Portfolio Office, a friendly and busy team who are responsible for managing the delivery of strategic change across the University.

You will have overall responsibility for establishing and running the programme of work with the goal of ensuring the successful delivery of the re-accreditations and any associated benefits for the University.  The successful candidate will also provide project management support for specific charter work if required. You will be a skilled communicator providing day-to-day programme management advice and support to the Chairs/Sponsors of the Charter Projects.

The role comprises some Business Owner duties and experience in this field would be helpful. In this instance, it will involve acting as a Charter Champion with Senior Stakeholders to ensure they all have a common view of their scope, purpose, benefits and are committed to delivering the Charter requirements including action plans. Other related duties will include supporting the development of a long-term plan for embedding the management of Equality Charters into a business as usual process.

You will be a positive and proactive problem solver and have the ability to manage often-conflicting priorities at the same time. You will be a strong team player, professional, clear thinking under pressure and act as a role model within the Change Portfolio Office.

A PRINCE2 Practitioner or traditional project management qualification is required. 

Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) or similar management qualification is desirable.
