The Faculty of Medicine, Genomic Informatics Group invites applications for a full time fixed-term postdoctoral position funded by the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre Nutrition focusing on the role of contemporary clinical and ‘omic data integration. In particular, genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and other ‘omic data with detailed longitudinal clinical data for the purpose of improved understanding of disease mechanism, personalised diagnosis and stratification. Importantly the role involves the development and application of methods for integrating and analysing data using contemporary machine learning approaches. Programming skills enabling management and manipulation of large scale data are essential.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, genetic epidemiology, genomic informatics or equivalent. Candidates will have a record of academic achievement including a background or strong interest in biological science, bioinformatics or computational science, a relevant postgraduate degree, and evidence of independent research. Direct experience of genomic data analysis or evidence of machine learning applications to large-scale research data are desirable. The ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment are central to the role.

The Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine theme forms part of the Human Development and Health (HDH) School, Faculty of Medicine and is located at Southampton University Hospital site. The appointee will be situated within the Genomic Informatics group and benefit from close interaction with colleagues within the Southampton NIHR BRC and UHS NHS FT as well as additional study specific internal and external collaborators.

This is a full-time fixed term post until 31/03/2022. Dependent on experience, the successful applicant will be appointed as a Senior Research Fellow or Research Fellow. 

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.
