About the role

This is a hugely exciting opportunity for a user-focused senior content designer, who understands the power of words and information to join our pioneering digital transformation programme which is about to enter a new phase.

You’ll be joining a large agile multi-disciplinary and co-located team dedicated to developing a new user-centred information and support service for many of our users groups - from applying to a course, to finding research collaborations and much more.

This project is fast-paced and hugely ambitious. We need someone to be accountable for the words that appear in your product area and be the go-to person for creating UX copy that’s compelling, easy to understand and concise.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development of simple, clear and strategic digital products and information that help our users interact with it.
  • Work closely with user researchers, service designers, product managers, other content designers and marketing teams in creating and applying a strong and consistent tone of voice to all of our products.
  • Build good relationships with stakeholder groups from across the organisation.
  • Create user-centred content using data and evidence ensuring we’re always using the right language at the right time and in the best format.
  • Work closely with other tech and UX teams to understand how your content can work in the best possible way for users.

You'll have a demonstrable experience of working at a senior level in user-centred design, with the following skills or some experience in:

  • a track record in creating outstanding, impactful content for user interfaces on web and mobile by using data.
  • Scoping, writing, editing and managing user-centred content to make sure it’s accurate, timely, relevant, accessible and written to style
  • Using analytics, user research and feedback to identify user needs and inform content decisions
  • Convincing stakeholders and team members about the benefits of adopting an accessible, user-centred design approach
  • Working autonomously while managing tight deadlines under pressure
  • Managing and mentoring team members, providing them with guidance, training and constructive feedback

It’s probably not the job for you, if you:

  • Specialise in snappy ad lines and marketing style copy – this is purely a product writing role
  • Love the idea of working with CMS content management
  • Need a clear brief from management before you can start
