About the role

This is a hugely exciting opportunity for a motivated User Researcher, to help our teams build a deep understanding of our users so we can design and deliver the services they need as part of our pioneering digital transformation programme, OneWeb, which is about to enter a new phase.

You’ll be joining a large agile multi-disciplinary and co-located team dedicated to developing a new user-centred information and support service for many of our users groups - from applying to a course, to finding research collaborations and much more.

This project is fast-paced and hugely ambitious. We need someone who can lead on a range of user research activities across service teams, in larger teams or on more complex services.

What you'll do

  • Carry out a range of user research activities, and deliver clear and actionable findings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build up a rich picture of our users.
  • Work closely with user researchers, content designers, product managers, other UX and technical disciplines and university functions to turn user research findings into stories and actions that lead to valuable product and service features.
  • Communicate user research findings to the team(s) and the wider organisation in order to influence decision-making.
  • Foster a culture of team involvement in user research, team analysis, design rationale and decision-making based on user needs.

What you’ll have

  • Demonstrable experience of advocating for user research and championing a focus on all users.
  • Ability to prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so.
  • Strong understanding of strengths and limitations of different research methods, and the ability to support and guide others in using new methods, where appropriate.
  • Experience of helping teams adopt a wide range of user research methods, analysis and synthesis techniques and approaches to presenting and sharing findings.
  • A strong understanding of the difference between user needs and desires of the user.
  • Experience of mentoring and upskilling junior researchers.
