Programme Manager (iDx-Lung)

Southampton Clinical Trials Unit

Location:  Southampton General Hospital
Salary:   £39,152 to £49,553 per annum
Full Time Fixed Term for 12 months
Closing Date:  Tuesday 25 February 2020
Interview Date:   To be confirmed
Reference:  1235220CM

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), based at Southampton General Hospital, manages a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.

We currently have a vacancy for a Programme Manager to oversee all aspects of the iDx-Lung programme, liaising with key stakeholders and ensuring key deliverables and metrics are met within each work package. They will ensure the programme is delivered to a consistently high standard, within budget tolerances, meeting the funders time requirements and ensuring the programme meets all professional standards and industry regulations. For activities carried out within the UoS the postholder will also deliver the relevant project activities.

The iDx-Lung programme integrates established and emergent technologies in early cancer detection with NHS England Lung Health Check (LHC) pilots in Wessex and Yorkshire. For the first time, best practice will be combined with imaging with molecular analyses of blood and respiratory epithelium, building an optimised pathway from population-based screening to effective diagnosis. All these tests have been developed by different companies, but never used in combination or with CT scanning, to see which might be the most efficient at finding early lung cancers. The programme hopes to streamline the process of detecting cancers and reduce the NHS resources that are needed in order to find each new case.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing complex projects in a fast paced, multi stakeholder environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be a good leader and line manager is essential.

The employing organisation is the University of Southampton which offers a competitive salary, pension scheme and other benefits.  The post is offered on a one year fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of an extension.

The CTU is part of a strong research environment in Southampton which includes the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Clinical Research Facility and strong NHS R&D Management.
