Full Time/ Part time Fixed Term (2 years)
Closing Date:  Wednesday 05 August 2020
Reference:  1276620CM

Full or part-time (minimum of 3 days per week)

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), usually based at Southampton General Hospital, manages a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.  At the current time the CTU staff are mainly home based due to the pandemic; the appointed candidate should therefore be prepared to work from home until we are able to be back in the CTU offices.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Trial Manager to join the existing team.  This person will work across the oncology and non-cancer groups, and take a leading role with COVID-19 trials.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous clinical trials experience to join a CTU which has full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC).

The Senior Trial Manager will be responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of trials ensuring they are designed, developed and delivered according to required standards, time and budget.  This is a senior post within the CTU with advisory, leadership and line management responsibilities.  The appointed person will be required to work with multiple stakeholders so must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be a good leader and line manager.

The successful candidate will have experience of trial coordination and/or management gained through working on interventional clinical trials, including experience of IMP management.  They will additionally have excellent knowledge of the legislation, regulation and governance relating to clinical trials.  As the COVID-19 trials require very rapid set-up, previous experience of developing clinical trials from trial design to first site open would be an advantage.

The employing organisation is the University of Southampton which offers a competitive salary, pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement and other benefits.  The post is offered for two years fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of an extension.

The post is full-time, or part-time at a minimum of 3 days per week.

The CTU is part of a strong research environment in Southampton which includes the South Central Research Design Service, Primary Care infrastructure, Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Clinical Research Facility and strong NHS R&D Management.
