Silicon Photonic

You will join our group and take on a role in a new project “juNIPeRS” Project (EPSRC EP/T007303/1) focusing on silicon nitride integrated photonics with an emphasis non-linear photonics. This is a great opportunity to work on the simulation, mask design, process development and fabrication of a variation of silicon nitride based photonic components in collaboration with academic partners and industrial partners BT, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft and Rockley photonics UK. You will join a fast growing team of over 40 researchers focussing on the field of Silicon Photonics, based within the state-of-the-art Zepler Institute Cleanroom Facilities ( at the University of Southampton, UK.  The project will be undertaken under the supervision of Dr Frederic Gardes ( ) and in collaboration with Prof Periklis Petropoulos. 

You will demonstrate substantial experience in silicon photonics and semiconductor device fabrication in a clean room environment and have a background in laboratory experimentation with critical evaluation and interpretation of data. It is expected that you will hold a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in silicon nitride processing. Experience in silicon photonics or group IV based material processing is critical.

This post is a full time fixed term of 2.5 years due to funding restrictions.
