Applications are invited for the position of Research Fellow to undertake research on a GCRF Strategic Development Fund grant in relation to a project titled ‘Saharan and Mediterranean Cross-Border Migration and Deaths and the Impacts on Economic and Social Development of African Countries’. The project involves the organisation and hosting of an international workshop at the University of Southampton in June 2021, and research connected with that workshop. The workshop attendees cover a spectrum of internationally renowned and leading academic experts in the field, and reputable institutional stakeholders. Discussions in the workshop will revolve around four identified themes covering irregular migration and its economic and social impacts on Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries. The workshop will provide an opportunity to establish a common research agenda, formed according to relevant local priorities.

The Research Fellow will undertake research and writing on various issues investigated by the project and as directed by the investigators. Particularly, the work will focus on the four themes of the workshop; the writing of a scoping paper for the workshop; communicating with the workshop attendees and investigators; and contributing to the organisation and hosting of the workshop.
