The Southampton High Energy Physics Group invites applications for an STFC-funded postdoctoral research position in lattice field theory and numerical simulation, starting from 1 October 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter). You will join our wide-ranging programme in lattice QCD covering flavour physics, hadronic structure and algorithm development. We are part of the RBC-UKQCD Collaboration and work closely with colleagues from the UK, USA, Denmark, Germany and Japan. You will join us in exploiting DiRAC supercomputing resources in the UK and supercomputers in other countries. A further central interest of the group is lattice holographic cosmology, combining ideas from holography and lattice QFT. You will share common expertise with students working in both lattice QCD and lattice holographic cosmology.

The members of staff undertaking research in lattice field theory are Professor Jonathan Flynn, Dr Andreas Jüttner, Professor Chris
Sachrajda and Professor Kostas Skenderis.

The Southampton group is a member of the STFC Virtual Centre for UK Lattice Field Theory (UKLFT) and is also supported by the EPSRC grant Lattice Field Theory at the Exascale Frontier (

The remaining research interests of the group include: physics beyond the standard model, particle physics and cosmology, neutrino physics, b-quark and kaon phenomenology, exact renormalization group, extra-dimensional models of the weak interactions, weak interaction corrections at high energies, twistor methods, holography, strings and branes, and high density QCD. More information is accessible via our website

It is essential you have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in theoretical particle physics or computational physics and experience in particle physics, lattice quantum field theory or other relevant computational physics.

The post is an STFC-funded research assistantship for full time, fixed term for two years, subject to review at the end of the first year. For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Andreas Jüttner,, Tel: +44 (0)23 8059 7343.
