Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work within an ongoing project funded as part of a UK research programme on greenhouse gas removal. You will conduct laboratory culture experiments using mine waste materials previously collected at a South African mine site, to test engineering solutions for enhancing rates of COremoval. The position is based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, which is located in a purpose-built waterfront campus that is a collaborative research centre between NERC and the University of Southampton.

The successful applicant will work closely with other researchers in this project, including geochemists, engineers and industrial partners, to deliver an integrated life cycle analysis of the feasibility of using mine wastes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. The successful applicant must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in geomicrobiology and biogeochemistry. They are expected to have considerable experience in microbiological culturing and preferably also molecular biological analyses and bioimaging. Well-developed time-management skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing are also essential.
