We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on an exciting interdisciplinary project to develop new sensor technologies for monitoring the oceans.  This project is funded by EU H2020 (Blue Growth) programme and is a collaborative activity with the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton and several other partners across Europe.  The goals of this project are to develop lab-on-chip technologies for remote genomic sampling and analysis of DNA in the oceans.  You will be part of a large team focusing on developing multiplexed molecular assays capable of in-situ analysis of several targets.  You should have good molecular biology skills and experience in Lab on Chip technologies.  

You will collaborate closely with our EU partners and deliver and present progress at regular progress meetings. You must be self-motivated and work independently under your own initiative. You must have excellent communication skills and proven ability in English language (written and verbal) for regular formal reporting. You also need to demonstrate initiative in problem solving and good practical capabilities.  

This challenging project requires a scientist with a PhD in Physical or Life Sciences discipline. You must have skills and expertise in molecular biology and in microfluidics.  

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The post is full time for 2 years and will be held at the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS).
