NIHR ARC Wessex 

We wish to appoint a Research fellow to support an exciting and new research study focusing on the development and implementation of a multidisciplinary medication review and Deprescribing Intervention among Frail older people in primary care (MODIFY). 

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the research activities of the MODIFY study including participant identification and recruitment; data collection, entry and analysis; preparation and drafting of reports, papers and communications. You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and a relevant postgraduate degree in a health-related subject, with experience in conducting qualitative research. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential to this role, and the ability to work as part of a team.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of enthusiastic clinicians and researchers across the faculty of Medicine and the School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton. The study is supported by the long-term conditions theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex and the postholder will work closely and collaboratively with the NIHR ARC Wessex and partner organisations. 

The NIHR ARC Wessex conducts applied health research with the aims to improve outcomes for patients and the public; improve quality, delivery and efficiency of health and care services; increase the sustainability of health and care systems locally and nationally, through collaborative partnership. It has four thematic programmes of work:

  • Ageing and Dementia
  • Healthy Communities
  • Long Term Conditions
  • Workforce & Health systems

This post is full-time funded by NIHR ARC Wessex, for a fixed-term period from October 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 29 March 2024. Salary will be determined by qualifications and previous experience.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
