The University of Southampton are looking for new team members to facilitate the operational delivery of sport at Wide Lane Sports Grounds. This multi-sport site offers a range of activities on grass and synthetic surfaces, in both the winter and summer months. Open to our student community and the general public, we have a large number of teams that call Wide Lane their home ground. The pitches and courts are used for regular training as well as hosting matches, notably the British University College League (BUCS).  In addition to our outdoor space, we have a large pavilion with 26 changing rooms and a function room that seats 100 people.

Wide Lane is also the location of our Team Southampton Gym and Sport Performance centre. These spaces are used by our sport teams and bursary and TASS athletes.

We are looking for team members who are motivated to work in a sporting environment, be willing to work both outside setting up sport pitches and courts as well as supporting the administration of the site from the office. Operating a reception desk, the role will be required to respond to emails, operate the intercom for the site barrier system and be the first point of face-to-face contact for customer enquiries.

Candidates would be expected to uphold our robust health and safety culture, prompting best practice in everything they do. Working as a satellite site to our main hub the Jubilee Sports Centre, Wide Lane is an off campus location that is supported by staff working at other locations. Providing first aid and responding to sporting incidents will be a key part of the role.

Wide Lane is open 7 days a week from 0800 – through to 2200. The position is full time and the average working hours will be 36 per week. The successful candidate would be expected to work weekends and late working. This is reflected though the addition of the shift allowance at 10%.  The rota for this role will work on a pattern which rotates over several weeks ensuring continuity of opening times.

As well as core benefits including a large employer pension contribution, maternity, paternity, and adoption leave and sickness benefits, other benefits include access to arts and culture facilities, childcare vouchers, a range of staff discounts, and flexible working policies.
